Agaves: A Portrait

Burn Pattern- Agave Leaf

After the Ryan Fire in May 2002, an extensive effort was undertaken to document the damage to the plant life. The ability of the agaves to withstand a hot fire like the Ryan fire was amazing. Many badly burned fires went on to put up stalks and distribute seeds. Many of the plant cores were apparently unharmed and picked up where they left off, growing slowly again. The patterns imposed on the agaves by the fire created beautiful patterns on the plants. I hope you appreciate those you see here.
