For more than 30 years, I have been drawn to the deserts of the American southwest . Imaging the desert landscape has for me, proven to be a powerful tool to concentrate the mind, to enable deep contemplation, and inspire meditation. More recently, I have turned my attention from metaphorical interpretations of the landscape writ large, to imaging fragments of the desert and seaside beaches that evoke in their quiet, understated way the same powerful combination of pattern, history and emotion as the grander landscape.
Thus this combination of landscapes, sandscapes and sandstone, largely assembled during the period 2006 to the present. My hope is that the viewer will find in Illusions of Intimacy what the late essayist, Ellen Meloy called the “calm of water”, the “spill of liquid silences”, and a “quality of light and color that pierces the heart.”
Images from Illusions of Intimacy are be available in the following sizes: 6x6 and 3x6" ($300); 10x10" and 5x10" $500); and an edition of 10 15x15" images($900).
